Sovina is a London-based contemporary artist whose journey began in a quiet village in Nottinghamshire. Growing up in an environment where words often fell short, she found in art a powerful means of expression—an outlet through which she could navigate and challenge the discriminatory spaces she encountered.
Although she was raised within a culture that reflected her heritage, she was frequently made aware that she did not “fit” its expectations. This sense of isolation prompted a deep personal inquiry into identity, history, and contemporary social issues. Through interrogating both the past and present, Sovina began to understand the forces that shaped her experiences, and art became the language through which she processed and articulated them.
A self-taught artist, Sovina discovered her creative talent at the age of eleven, finding solace and affirmation in art classes. Despite her early passion, the perceived impracticality of pursuing art as a career led her along a different professional path, and she became a chartered surveyor. Yet creativity remained a constant presence—sometimes quiet, sometimes urgent—threaded through the various chapters of her life.
The global events of 2020, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, marked a turning point. These collective reckonings converged with her own self-discovery and growing confidence in her voice, reigniting her creative fire. What had once been artistic interludes evolved into a dedicated and committed practice.
Sovina views art as a vital record of our shared and individual histories. Her paintings function as visual narratives, capturing events and emotions with the depth and resonance of poetry. Through layered symbolism and expressive form, she explores identity, belonging, and the complexities of lived experience.
Her work has been exhibited at venues including Publicis Sapient, Green & Stone, LinkedIn UK, and in Piccadilly, London (sponsored by The Crown Estate). She is affiliated with Disrupt Space gallery and the Apricus Art Collection (USA), and is a member of the Art on the Underground Associates.
Through her practice, Sovina seeks to spark open and honest conversations. She aims to foster dialogue, encourage reflection, and cultivate broader understanding through the exchange of diverse perspectives.
